Training Teachers to Pass on the Culture of the Christian West
The Teacher Certification Program is designed to aid teachers in the joy of learning and equip them as classical educators. Split into three levels, this cost-effective program partners with Memoria College and in Level I, steps a teacher into an understanding of classical education: its history, content, and practice. It then, in upcoming Level II, situates classical education in the classroom and provides practical guidance on teaching with a mind towards what is good, true, and beautiful. The program culminates in upcoming Level III with the opportunity for teachers to step more deeply into learning for the sake of learning and discover the richness therein.
Level I:
Foundations of Classical Education
This will include:
- 3 Online Courses
- Introduction to Classical Education
- The Practice of Classical Pedagogy
- Essentials of Effective Teaching
- Written summary of course studies
- On-site attendance at CLSA Teacher Training Conference in Louisville, KY in July
- Meet with CLSA staff to review participant’s observations

Philosophy & Practice of Classical Education

Trifold Approach
For each level, participants will 1) engage in live courses (presented either by Memoria College or CLSA staff), 2) write a summary paper reflecting on topics and content from those courses, and 3) meet with their designated CLSA representative to discuss what they are learning. Certification is offered upon completion of each successive level. Participants should plan to complete each level within one calendar year.
Requirements
It is required that teachers applying for the Certification Program possess a strong desire to learn and study, displaying strong oral and written communication skills.
Applicants must also have access to stable internet connection, a computer, an email address, a microphone, and a web camera.
FAQs
Am I eligible for the program if I do not have a bachelor’s degree?
The CLSA does not require any formal previous degree to pursue the Teacher Certification Program. We understand that many schools hire teachers who may not have previous training and we want to fill that gap by offering training for them.
Does this certificate require ongoing courses after completion?
No ongoing courses or professional development is required following the completion of the Teacher Certification Program.
Are grades assigned?
There are no grades assigned in this program, only feedback given on summary papers.
Does my school need to be a member of the CLSA in order for me to participate?
While membership with the CLSA is not required in order for individual teachers to participate in the Teacher Certification Program, there is the benefit of reduced cost if your school is a member.
