The Cottage Grove Christian School is seeking a teacher of the Classics to assume duties in August 2017.  The Cottage Grove Christian School is an independent, private K-12 academy.  As a nondenominational Christian school, we incorporate Christian moral and spiritual teachings throughout our curriculum.  As a classical school, our goal is to employ the educational philosophy and methodology developed by the ancient Greeks and Romans.  Our goal is to intellectually and morally prepare our students to become wise, virtuous Christian gentlemen and ladies equipped to bear the responsibilities of a free people.  For more information about CGCS, visit us at www.cottagegroveschool.com.
The Teacher of the Classics will primarily teach grades 7-12.  The candidate must…
  • be mentally flexible and possess strong interpersonal skills
  • love and need to both learn and teach
  • possess at least a BA degree in Classics, Classical Languages, or a closely related field (MA’s or PhD’s preferred)
  • be able to teach advanced Latin and at least intermediate Greek
  • be knowledgeable of Greek and Latin culture, literature, and history
  • embrace Christian values and Classical pedagogy
  • have an appreciation for the cultural heritage of the American South
  • wish to help shape the long-term future of CGCS as a first-rate classical academy
The ideal candidate would…
  • speak Latin
  • know French
  • possess a deep knowledge of and love for history
  • thrive in the rural South
Candidates will also be given consideration for the position of headmaster either initially or following their first year of employment, depending on their qualifications. Candidates seeking part-time employment will also be considered.
